Here is the MSR I submitted:
Context or setting identified
Professional Context: Business
This is oriented toward people who want to do business in China.
Assumptions:
Program participants want to work in China
Program participants want advanced preparation.
Assumes limited experience or knowledge of China.
Participants have limited time to spend in the program.
The System: Training that prepares businessmen to work in the People’s Republic of China.
The Supra-system: A business that provides the training.
Subsystems: Survival Business Chinese Language; Cultural Considerations; History; Politics; one or two learner selected focus areas, e.g., marketing, law, engineering, manufacturing.
There would need to be major needs assessment component to this model to determine how to tailor the program fit the needs of the learner. Formative feedback from the learner would also play a significant role to continue to adjust the instruction to meet the learner’s needs.
Role and/or status of developer
The developer also implements the program.
Intended Audience of the Report
I will be the user of the model. I will use the model to do the needs analysis and design the curriculum for each student.
Purpose of the model
Determine student needs.
Determine student learning plan
Implement student learning
Evaluate progress of learning
Adjust learning plan as evaluation indicates
Any pressing questions
I am having a hard time writing this Module Status Report, mainly because I do not understand what is being asked.
I understand the Module Exercises, yet I don’t know how they translate into the development of a model.
How do I figure out how to draw the model?

Stacey,
I had the exact same question! How are all these exercises preparing us to create the actual model? After discussing with Page, the goal of all the exercises is to help us deeply understand and reflect on the context the model will be used in. This way, when we go to create the actual model, we will be able to create a meaningful, useful model because we have thought through all aspects of its use. I hope that helps...I am still trying to understand it myself =) I am a big picture person, so not being able to draw my model and develop it as we go along is frustrating...

I was wondering what the overall goal or purpose your model is going to be used for?
So is this along the lines of the classroom models that tend to be developed and executed by the same person? I was under the impression until now that your were developing a curriculum for others to follow. I envisioned a business that conducted the business of training people to work in China - is that completely off base? Will each of these be fully customized learning plans? In what context will this be used? Is it a private home business? Is this to be a one-student-per-class, tutoring situation?
Actually, what I want is a self learning model for most of the material, so computer based RLO's would work. For for a few activities (language practice and evaluation, restaurant protocol) this would require human interaction. I imagine this would be distance learning as much as possible, with the student being able to access "teacher" assistance needed, but someone would also touch base with the student periodically.
Now all I have to figure out is how to represent this as a diagram...
Ahhh! I think I understand this better now. I'd like to recommend you take a look at Corean4Life a podcast my wife and I were publishing for a while with a similar goal in mind. Unfortunately, we have not had any time to spend on it recently, but I do believe it's a solid format and we only received positive feedback on it. Our development model was sort of along the lines of RAD as we would throw something together quickly, incorporate feedback and repeat. What you will see at that location is probably the fourth or fifth iteration.
